Dr. Freeland opened the practice in 1999 as Companion Animal Hospital and Clinic. In 2013, he sold his practice to Best Friends Pet Care, creating the Freeland Animal Hospital that people know today. Staying on as Medical Director, Dr. Freeland continues the same level of patient care as he did as owner.
Originally from Nebraska, Dr. Freeland received a degree from the University of Nebraska before receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1988. He enjoys general practice and has a special interest in internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. When not at work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Brenda, and his two children, Grant and Kelly. He also enjoys spending time outdoors, running, and hiking.
Mavis – Golden Retriever
Dr. Premo originally joined Freeland Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant in 2011, but has since returned after obtaining her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine. She attended Ball State University for her undergraduate degree in Biology. Her special interests include dermatology and internal medicine. In her free time, Dr. Premo enjoys off-roading in her Jeep, camping, hiking, fishing, traveling, and trying new things. She also enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and her dogs Jack and Ollie.

Professional and Personal:
Dr. Towner grew up in Chesterton but has lived in multiple towns throughout Indiana. She currently shares her home with her boyfriend and their 5 cats. During her free time, Dr. T enjoys knitting, candle-making, traveling, hiking/camping and spending quality time with friends and family.
As a fear free certified professional, Dr. Towner’s goal is to reduce anxiety for cats and dogs before, during and after their veterinary visits. Her special medical interests include internal medicine and cardiology.
5 cats – Finn, Murphy, Spencer, Taika, & Leland
Amy comes to us with a number of years in the Veterinary Field. In July 2017 her husband Adam, an Army Recruiter, was reassigned to Indiana. She has spent many of her years in the service industry as well as the veterinary field, and watching her in action you can tell she loves people and pets. Amy shares her home with her loving husband, son Daniel who is serving in the Army, daughter Krystin, and her pets.
Aubie-Boxer, Dax- Shih Tzu, Jonesy – Cat
Angie has been in the veterinary field since 1992. She started with Post pet Hospital in 2000 and then Post Pet Hospital merged with Freeland Animal Hospital in 2020. She started as a veterinary assistant and is now the Hospital Administrator.
Angie has completed the VMI (veterinary management institute series) at Purdue University.
Outside of work, Angie likes to go camping, visit the beach, read, and spend time with her family and friends. She is married and has two daughters.
Cori is a native Floridian that joined the team at Freeland Animal Hospital in July 2008. She has been a registered veterinary technician since 2002. In the past she has worked in various fields of veterinary medicine including cancer research and shelter medicine. Outside of work, Cori enjoys gardening, biking, and spending time with her husband and two children.
Jazmine – Cat, Molly – Australian Cattle Dog
Danielle started her career in the veterinary field in 2015 when she began schooling to become a Veterinary Technician at Harrison College. She graduated in 2018 with an associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology. She started at Post Pet Hospital in 2019.
She has 6 cats Maggie, Binx, Ike, Taco, Avocado, and Kitty. In her downtime she enjoys reading, hanging out with friends, and getting outdoors whenever she can.
Shelbey started at Freeland in 2020 and has been a tech for 6 years. She has a background in surgery and emergency medicine as well as general practice.
Her favorite part about her job is watching the puppies and kittens grow into adults as well as educating their owners.
Graduated in 2016 from Harrison College
Certified in basic and advanced life support by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC).
How she knew she wanted to be a veterinary technician: as a young girl, she resuscitated a newborn kitten that was born lifeless under my parent’s house, who then became a beloved childhood pet. She adapted the saying “Because of your life, I will save many more.”
Hobbies include watching scary movies, camping, concerts, and watching sports with my family.
Goals: to continue to improve overall care to patients and create a trusting bond between owners and their veterinary care team.
Pets: Amy-Pitbull, Marnie-Aussie Mix, and Midas-DSH
For most of her life, Kelly has been helping out here at the hospital – from playing with clinic cats as a toddler to helping the doctors with patients as a young adult. She started working with us on an official capacity over the summer as a Technician’s Assistant. Though she is in the midst of her college career, she plans on continuing her position here on her breaks and vacations from school, where she is going to get her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. As a lifelong soccer player, Kelly also works as a soccer coach, teaching others the game she loves. In her free time, she enjoys playing guitar, fishing, hiking, and reading. Kelly finds herself fluent in sarcasm, as well as semi-fluent in Sign Language; something that will help us here at the hospital, as well as her future career endeavors.
Mavis – Golden Retriever, Annie – Chow Mix, Teagan – Cat
Mandi is a mother of 4. She has 3 pets, a Pitbull named Red, a Chinese Crested named Otis and a cat named Ned. She has been an assistant/receptionist since 2006. She enjoys the outdoors and spending time with her friends and family.
Brooke joined our team in October of 2020. Her love for animals and veterinary medicine started when she assisted with the birth of a goat at just 4 years old. She went on to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from the University of Kentucky where she spent most of her time working with dairy cattle and training service dogs.
She currently has 1 cat named Dutchess and enjoys spending her free time traveling and kayaking.
Alex has been at Freeland for almost a year. He was been in the veterinary field for about 5 years.
He has a daughter who is 11, a son who is 20 months, and 2 cats.
His favorite part of this profession is client connections and the true feeling of teamwork and sense of accomplishment.
She joined the Freeland Animal Hospital team in April of 2018. Coming from a background of grooming and other animal clinic work , it is her passion to be around animals. As a child she dreamed of being a veterinarian, but cards didn’t work in her favor so she did the next best thing. In her spare time she loves walking her dogs and spending time with family as well as volunteering at local shelters and rescue groups.

Jenny has recently joined the Freeland family as a veterinary receptionist but has been in the veterinary field since 2014. Rescuing animals has always been a passion of hers. She currently has four dogs.
She looks forward to seeing and building relationships with our clients and their four-legged kiddos.
Cailyn joined the Freeland family in May of 2019. She comes from a background of grooming, pet resorts and now hopes to learn all she can in the veterinary field. She loves animals especially her 3 dogs. In her spare time she enjoys drawing, gaming and hanging out with her husband, kids, friends and family.
Debby has been in the veterinary field since 1985 and has been with PPH since 2004. Debby is married and has three dogs – Libby, Augie & Annie
Miriam has been grooming for about 2 years now, and loves it! She especially loves getting to know all of the pups and kittens that she grooms, and making them look (and feel) great!
She’s so happy to be able to pursue her passion in grooming, and can’t wait to meet all of your furry companions!
Hope is from all over the US and currently lives in Southport, Indiana with her girlfriend and pets – a 2-year-old standard poodle named Steinbeck, a 10-year-old toy poodle named Piper, and a 6-month-old Russian Dwarf Hamster named Maru.
She has been grooming for three years and likes to make pets as comfortable and stylish as possible.
When not grooming, Hope can be found talking to her plants, reading books, or falling asleep with a carton of ice cream in hand.
