Dr. Leon Freeland – Medical Director

Dr. Freeland opened the practice in 1999 as Companion Animal Hospital and Clinic. In 2013 he sold to Best Friends Pet Care, creating the Freeland Animal Hospital that people know of today. Staying on as Medical Director, Dr. Freeland continues the same level of patient care as he did as owner. Originally from Nebraska, Dr. Freeland received a degree from the University of Nebraska before receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 1988. He enjoys general practice and has a special interest in internal medicine and soft tissue surgery. When not at work, he enjoys running, hiking, hunting, football, and spending time with his two children, Grant and Kelly.

Kelly Freeland - Veterinary Assistant

For most of her life, Kelly has been helping out here at the hospital – from playing with clinic cats as a toddler to helping the doctors with patients as a young adult. She started working with us on an official capacity over the summer as a Technician’s Assistant. Though she starts her college career in January of 2018, she plans on continuing her position here on her breaks and vacations from school, where she is going to get her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. As a lifelong soccer player, Kelly also works as a soccer coach, teaching others the game she loves. In her free time she enjoys playing guitar, fishing, hiking, and reading. Kelly finds herself fluent in sarcasm, as well as semi-fluent in Sign Language; something that will help us here at the hospital, as well as her future career endeavors.

Madison keeps herself busy, and has two additional jobs, one as a Lead Pet Care Technician with PetSuites, and another as the Animal Caretaker of the Humane Society of Johnson County. She received her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Marian University in 2016. Graci - Lead Clinic Cat

Gracie came to us about 6 years ago from a client that could no longer care for her. She was overweight and needed to lose about half her body weight! Once we got her to where she needed to be, she has been on a strict diet. She spends her time in the treatment room where it is quieter and less stressful. She is the best cuddler anybody could ask for!

Ragnar - Clinic Cat, Lead Trouble Maker

Ragnar (named after a Viking king) came to us as a kitten very cold and weighing only 13 ounces!  He has since grown into a healthy, active, sometimes sweet, and mischievous kitty!  He’s attempting to fill some big paw prints here at Freeland Animal Hospital, and is learning more each day. He likes to greet people and pets alike.  In his free time he likes eating, sleeping, eating, his toy mice, picking on Dr. Premo’s dogs, and did we mention eating?
